Will Ayotte Buck The GOP Establishment And Endorse Conservative Party Nominee Doug Hoffman Or Will She Stick With Party Leaders And Endorse Dede Scozzafava?
With New Hampshire Senate candidate Ovide Lamontagne making it clear that he supports Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman in next week’s special election in New York’s 23rd Congressional District, who will Kelly Ayotte endorse in the race to succeed former Congressman John McHugh? Although Republican Dede Scozzafava is the choice of national Republicans, many prominent conservatives from around the country have decided to endorse the Conservative Party’s Doug Hoffman, who they view as the true conservative in the race. Recently, Hoffman has been endorsed by prominent conservatives such as Sarah Palin, Tim Pawlenty, Dick Armey, Fred Thompson, and just recently Ovide Lamontagne. Hoffman is also viewed more favorably by the TEA Party protesters and other far-right political groups. On the other hand, Scozzafava is being supported by the national Republican Party apparatus. With many calling the NY-23 election a race for the heart and soul of the Republican Party, who will Kelly Ayotte support?
“Now that Ovide Lamontagne has made his choice clear, Kelly Ayotte should tell the people of New Hampshire where she stands,” said Eric Schultz, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Communications Director. “New Hampshire Republican primary voters have a right to know if Ayotte supports the pro-gay marriage, pro-choice, pro-labor candidate or if she stands with the far-right Doug Hoffman. Or will Kelly Ayotte continue to try to have it both ways by being all things to all people and refuse to take a stand?”
