CPR - CORNERSTONE COMMENTS ON SHAHEEN VOTE AGAINST ABORTION AMENDMENT

Says Shaheen Capitulating to the Abortion Lobby; Not Listening to Constituents

Manchester, NH - Yesterday, Senator Ben Nelson's (D-NE) amendment to the proposed health care bill, which would have prohibited tax-payer funding of abortion lost in the US Senate by a vote of 54-45.  60 votes were needed to pass the bill.  Senator Judd Gregg voted for the bill, Senator Jeanne Shaheen voted against it.  See story HERE.

Today, Cornerstone-Action's Executive Director, Kevin Smith, reacted to this development.

"We are very disappointed by Senator Shaheen's decision to reject a common sense amendment to the health care bill which would have prohibited tax payer funding of abortions.  Mrs. Shaheen has once again demonstrated her extreme position on this issue by capitulating to the abortion lobby rather than representing her own constituents."
