NH Senate Republican Statement on Proposed Building Aid Suspension

Concord, NH - Today, Senate Minority Leader Peter Bragdon released the following statement regarding the proposal by a legislative study committee to suspend the school building aid grant program, due to what the committee called the program's "unsustainable trajectory."

"The only thing unsustainable about the school building aid program is the risky financing scheme concocted by Governor Lynch and the legislative Democrats that has the state borrowing money to make payments on money borrowed in prior years.  While the average cost of projects in the program has been going down, the financing costs for the Democrats' accounting gimmick will soon outstrip the amount of actual aid going to school districts.  Republicans warned against this unsound financial practice, and now the ones being hurt are the local school districts planning needed projects for the future."
