Washington, D.C.- Americans for Job Security launched a campaign today opposing the nomination of Representative Hilda Solis for Secretary of Labor.
“Rep. Solis is wholly owned by Big Labor and is willing to compromise the rights of employees in order to enact their radical anti-worker agenda,” said Stephen DeMaura, President of Americans for Job Security.
Rep. Solis is the treasurer of the pro-union American Rights at Work which has spent over $220,000 lobbying Congress on legislation she has sponsored. Rep. Solis has allegedly violated House ethics rules as well as the Bipartisan Campaign Finance Reform Act of 2002 in her position.
“The right to a secret ballot is a fundamental American tradition and it is unfortunate that Rep. Solis believes it is a right she deserves but that American workers do not,” said Stephen DeMaura President of Americans for Job Security.
Rep. Solis is a co-sponsor of the controversial Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA), a piece of legislation which would strip the American worker of their right to a secret ballot in organization elections. Favored by Union executives at the expense of individual workers the legislation deprives employees of fundamental workers rights and opens the workplace to coercion.
