Conference and Trade Show in Philadelphia with Focus on Important Emerging Regional Market
WASHINGTON, DC - The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) today opened registration for the PV America Conference, its first conference dedicated solely to the growing solar photovoltaic (PV) industry. The conference takes place June 8- June 10, 2009 in Philadelphia at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.Philadelphia is at the heart of the fast-emerging Mid-Atlantic PV market.
PV America comes at a pivotal time for the industry. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act included 19 provisions that impact the solar industry. These policies will be implemented over the next few months.PV America gives solar entrepreneurs the premier opportunity to learn how these provisions will allow them to expand their business and create new green-collar jobs.
Renewable energy advocate and former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director James Woolsey will give one of the keynote addresses at PV America. In recent years, Woolsey has become a strong advocate for renewable energy, linking the seamless issues of renewable energy production with national security, job creation, and global warming solutions.Woolsey has served as U.S. Ambassador to the Negotiation on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE), Vienna, 1989-1991; Under Secretary of the Navy, 1977-1979; and General Counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services, 1970-73. He was also appointed by President Reagan as Delegate at Large to the U.S.-Soviet Strategic Arms Reduction Talks (START) and Nuclear and Space Arms Talks (NST), and served in that capacity on a part-time basis in Geneva, 1983-1986.
“With several federal and state policies now in place to stimulate the solar energy market, the PV industry is poised to create thousands of new green-collar jobs, especially in areas hard hit by recession such as the emerging Mid-Atlantic market,” said SEIA President & CEO Rhone Resch.“PV America gives entrepreneurs and small business owners the chance to learn more about how to take advantage of these opportunities and show consumers during the conference’s public night that dollar-for-dollar, solar is the best clean energy value in America.”
PV America runs concurrently with the Photovoltaic Specialists Conference presented by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).SEIA, its Mid-Atlantic chapter (MSEIA), and IEEE have joined forces to present the preeminent PV-focused industry conference and trade show in the United States.Programming from the premier technical PV conference is paired with SEIA’s policy and market development expertise to give the most current updates on PV technology, industry trends and business opportunities. All proceeds of the event go toward advocacy work to advance policy and expand the U.S. solar industry market.
“States like Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Delaware and Maryland have established leading incentives for the growth of solar and the Mid-Atlantic is poised to explode with activity in the near-term,” added Resch. “Just today in New Jersey, Governor Jon Corzine announced the completion of the largest rooftop solar array in the United States – a 2.3 MW installation at the Atlantic City Convention Center.Solar works everywhere and PV America will show the growth and outlook of the Mid-Atlantic region as a major part of the fast growing sector.”
