I just wanted to give you a heads-up on a multi-state roundup of efforts to tax the wealthy we posted as part of our Stateside Dispatch. New York's recent deal to create two new higher income tax brackets has garnered a lot of well-deserved press over the last week, but our piece puts this advance in the perspective of a growing movement across the country to buck the tax revolt rhetoric and reimagine taxation policy in a progressive frame. Pulling examples from Wisconsin, Connecticut, New Jersey, Iowa, Delaware, Oregon, and even the historically regressive Washington state we make the case that state legislators are already making themselves across the country: that taxing the wealthy and growing the economy can go hand in hand.
