NH Senate Republicans on Gas Tax

Senate Republicans Praise Governor Lynch's Gas Tax Veto Pledge

Concord, NH - Today, Senate Republicans praised Governor Lynch for promising to veto the state budget if it contains a gas tax increase.

"We applaud Governor Lynch for his stance against a gas tax increase in these very difficult economic times," said Deputy Minority Leader Bob Odell (R-Lempster). "Gas prices are going up every day, and with the start of the summer tourist season at hand, the last thing New Hampshire residents and visitors need is state government reaching into their wallets every time they stop for gas. Less money in people's wallets means less money to spend at local businesses which makes it even harder to get New Hampshire citizens back to work."

Senate Republicans also called on Governor Lynch to broaden his veto pledge.

"Governor Lynch should pledge to veto the budget if it contains any new taxes," said Senate Minority Leader Peter Bragdon (R-Milford). "Increasing taxes would further burden New Hampshire families in a down economy and would do nothing to cure the state's spending addiction."
