Solar energy industry poised to expedite development of vast solar energy resources in U.S.
WASHINGTON, DC – Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) President and CEO Rhone Resch released the following statement following today’s testimony before the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming by Sean Gallagher, Vice President of Marketing and Regulatory Affairs for Tessera Solar, a SEIA member company located in Houston, Texas:
“We applaud Chairman Markey’s leadership in keeping the climate and energy bill moving forward. Today’s hearing highlights the role solar energy can play in reducing our dependence on foreign sources of energy by generating pollution-free energy here at home. The United States has some of the richest solar resources in the world and we must not miss the opportunity to create tens of thousands of jobs as well as generate clean, reliable energy with an inexhaustible, domestic resource.
“To fully realize this potential, Congress should pass comprehensive energy policy that enacts a strong national Renewable Electricity Standard, invests in new transmission infrastructure and significantly reduces carbon emissions.
“If passed, these market-based policies would expedite deployment of solar technologies on rooftops and utility-scale solar plants. The solar industry is one of the only industries that can rapidly scale-up production and provide meaningful manufacturing, construction and other jobs in states hit hard by the economic downturn. These initiatives make sense and will help diversify our nation’s energy sources while growing the economy.
“Very simply, we can reduce pollution while creating new U.S. jobs.”
