Washington, DC – Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter today welcomed the announcement that New Hampshire will receive more than $5 million to hire and rehire local law enforcement officers. The funding, which is provided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act or “stimulus,” will provide salary and benefits to 24 officers for three years.
“The citizens of Manchester, Rochester, Alton, Epping, and Wakefield will be protected by more officers because of these funds,” said Congresswoman Shea-Porter. “Our police departments need extra resources, and I am very pleased that they will receive this help.”
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which Congresswoman Shea-Porter voted for, has already allocated more than $1.3 billion in funding for New Hampshire, and more than $625 million has been made available to date. This includes funding for transportation infrastructure, affordable housing programs, hazardous sites clean ups, wastewater treatment facilities, wastewater infrastructure, clean water programs, emergency food and shelter programs, energy projects, weatherization programs, local transit systems, and homelessness prevention.
