Washington, DC – Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter released the following statement after an amendment to create a Debt Commission failed by a vote of 53-46 in the Senate.
“I am very disappointed that the Senate failed to pass legislation to create a bipartisan commission that would offer recommendations on how to reduce the national debt. Just today, the Congressional Budget Office projected that the FY10 deficit will total $1.35 trillion. Our deficits and national debt are simply unsustainable. We need to get serious about reducing our debt and this Commission would be a great start.”
