AUL Action made national headlines last week when Rep. Kathy Dahlkemper (D-Pa.) hired attorneys to try to pull our radio ad highlighting her vote for legislation permitting taxpayer-funded abortion. In response, AUL Action released a detailed, line-by-line analysis of our radio ad that demonstrates that every fact and assertion is absolutely true.
“Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper voted for the largest expansion of taxpayer-funded abortion in American history,” said Dr. Charmaine Yoest, President and CEO of Americans United for Life Action. “What’s worse, she voted against it before she voted for it and now hopes voters don’t know the difference.”

On The Docket
In an effort to mislead voters, the abortion industry and its Capitol Hill allies have waged an effective misinformation campaign - asserting that the new health care law does not allow taxpayer-funded abortion. AUL Action attorney Mary Harned wrote a concise explanation of how the federal health care law contains a major loophole that allows taxpayer funding for abortions, as well as several other loopholes that could lead to such funding.
In her detailed legal analysis, Harned explains, “The Affordable Care Act uses federal tax dollars to subsidize insurance plans that cover abortions, which is equivalent to directly paying for the abortions. ... Section 1303 of Title I, Subtitle D of the Affordable Care Act provides that Qualified Health Plans may provide abortion coverage to enrollees. While the section creates an accounting mechanism designed to prevent federal subsidies from being used to directly pay for abortions through [such plans], this provision is a departure from the status quo on abortion funding.”
