Concord - New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley released the following statement in support of state Senator Sylvia Larsen's election as Senate Democratic leader.
"Senator Larsen's commitment to core Democratic values, combined with her ability to work across party lines, makes her the perfect choice to lead the Democratic state Senators for the next two years. She has the full confidence of our caucus and of all Democrats across the state of New Hampshire.
"Senator Larsen's election today also reaffirms the hard work accomplished by Senate Democrats during the two previous terms. Her leadership helped create jobs through New Hampshire Working, raise the minimum wage for the first time in over a decade, and give every Granite State child the opportunity to attend public kindergarten.
"As Senate President, Sylvia Larsen ran a fair and even handed senate. We have every hope and expectation that the Republican leadership will do the same."
On November 2, 2010 Senator Larsen was elected to her 9th term in the state Senate representing Senate district 15 consisting of Concord, Hopkinton and Pembroke. Senator Larsen has served in a leadership post for all nine terms; Assistant Democratic Whip 1995-1998, Senate President Pro Tem 1999-2000, Senate Democratic Caucus Leader 2001-2002, Senate Democratic Leader 2003-2006, Senate President 2007-2010. Prior to serving in the senate Senator Larsen served eight years as a Concord City Councilor at-large.
