AUL - Yoest on Pro-Life House Leadership

WASHINGTON, D.C. – (11/17/2010) Dr. Charmaine Yoest on Wednesday applauded the GOP members of the House for choosing four pro-life representatives to their top leadership positions. Yoest noted that, “Speaker Boehner has told me he wants to be the most pro-life Speaker ever. We are delighted to see that the recipient of our 2010 Defender of Life Award will be the new Speaker of the House. We look forward to working with Speaker Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor and these new pro-life leaders of the House of Representatives."

She continued: “The Obama Administration has been the most pro-abortion presidency in history and authored the largest expansion of taxpayer funded abortion ever in the Obama-Pelosi health care law. We look forward to working with the new House leadership to repeal and replace this destructive legislation. American voters agree: taxpayer-funded abortion is not acceptable.”

Elected today are: Rep. John Boehner (R-OH), as Speaker of the House; Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) as majority leader; Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R- CA) as Majority Whip; and Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) as chairman of the House Conference.

Note: On May 5, 2010, AUL presented the Henry Hyde Defender of Life Award to Congressman Boehner.

Americans United for Life (AUL) is a nonprofit, public-interest law and policy organization whose vision is a nation in which everyone is welcomed in life and protected in law. The first national pro-life organization in America, AUL has been committed to defending human life through vigorous judicial, legislative, and educational efforts at both the federal and state levels since 1971.

AUL's legal team has been involved in every abortion-related case before the U.S. Supreme Court including the successful defense of the Hyde Amendment. AUL also publishes Defending Life, the most comprehensive state-by-state legal guide of its kind, which is distributed annually to legislators across the nation.

Recently, Americans United for Life detailed the facts on taxpayer-funding of abortion during the debate over federal health care legislation, provided legal assistance to states working to opt out of abortion provisions created by federal health care law, and has played a major role in educating policymakers on the record of President Obama’s then-nominees to the U.S. Supreme Court.
