Concord - New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley issued the following statement after attending the President's signing the repeal of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' in Washington DC this morning.
"Today, I watched as the promise of equality for all Americans, that was outlined by our founding fathers over 200 years ago, took an enormous leap forward with the repeal of the discriminatory 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy. The overwhelming majority of our men and women in uniform support the end of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell,' as do both the Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the vast majority of New Hampshire and American citizens.
"President Obama's signature ended nearly two decades of LGBT Americans being forced to live a lie and serve the nation they love in secret. Inequity and discrimination are fundamentally Un-American ideals and the repeal of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' reaffirmed that they have no place in our country.
"I commend President Obama, Senator Shaheen, Congresswoman Shea-Porter, and Congressman Hodes for all of their hard work to bring this institutionalized discrimination to an end. I also want to thank all of the men and women serving in uniform around the globe for their continued sacrifice."
