WASHINGTON, DC — Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter today announced that four different First District towns will receive a total of $226,100 in grant funding through the FY 2009 Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) Program. The purpose of the AFG Program is to award grants directly to fire departments and EMS organizations that are unaffiliated with a hospital to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public, as well as that of first-responder personnel.
Funding for the First District fire departments breaks down as follows:
-Somersworth Fire Department: $94,525
-Hampstead Fire Rescue: $59,375
-Danville Fire: $38,855
-Strafford Fire and Rescue: $33,345
“Firefighters are often the first responders during an emergency situation in our local communities,” said Congresswoman Shea-Porter. “This funding will help ensure that they have the support they need to continue to do their job effectively and keep our communities safe.”
