A Message from Ovide Lamontagne

We all know that the independent-minded voters of New Hampshire decide for themselves who to support in a primary. And while I respect Senator McCain's service to our country, he of all people should know this better than most. But it didn't stop him from getting involved in our contested Republican primary for U.S. Senate, and joining with other members of the DC establishment by endorsing Kelly Ayotte.

In my opinion, it is the voters of New Hampshire who are sovereign, and who should decide the outcome of this race. You and I know that Washington in broken, and that the old way of doing business there must end. Too much spending, too many special interests and backroom deals, and too few leaders of principle and conscience. That's why I have elected to ignore both the "wisdom" of the establishment as well as the politics of elite entitlement. I am the true conservative in this race, and I have the track record to prove it. It is in the judgment of the voters that I place my trust and confidence. And that's why I'm turning to you.

Since Senator McCain has elevated this race into the national spotlight, it promises to be an expensive campaign. I need your support now more than ever to ensure that New Hampshire's Senate seat lands in the hands of a true conservative. Will you follow this link and make a contribution of $25, $50, $100, $250 or more to my campaign today?

Ironically, Senator McCain's presence in the Granite State provided an excellent opportunity for our voters to learn just a few of the important differences in this campaign between my opponents and myself:

  • I publicly opposed the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, as did Senator McCain, recognizing that Judge Sotomayor is a liberal jurist who was very clear in her belief that judges make policy from the bench. As Senator, I will only support judges who uphold the rule of law and uphold the Constitution, not legislate from the bench. By comparison, Kelly Ayotte and Paul Hodes both said that they would have voted in favor of Judge Sotomayor.

  • I have consistently opposed earmarks, recognizing their corrupting influence on politics. Like Senator McCain, I have publicly backed the effort by Senator Jim DeMint for a moratorium on earmarks. By comparison, until a few weeks ago, Kelly Ayotte publicly supported earmarks. In Fiscal Year 2010, Paul Hodes submitted 64 earmark requests totaling $230 million dollars. Both Paul Hodes and Kelly Ayotte have since experienced election year conversions and now oppose earmarks.

  • Like Senator McCain, I opposed the $787 Billion "stimulus" plan from the beginning, and called for its repeal, recognizing it as wasteful pork-barrel spending designed to keep the special interests well fed. But, as Attorney General, Kelly Ayotte publicly encouraged people and organizations to apply for stimulus funding and helped to administer stimulus funds without a word of concern about this boondoggle. And Paul Hodes proudly voted for the stimulus in the House.

There is one other significant difference for voters to consider in this race: I am the only candidate for U.S. Senate with a record of over 20 years of principled, conservative leadership, who the voters can trust as an independent-minded, conservative voice on their behalf.

That's why I hope I can count on you to follow this link and make the most generous contribution you can to my campaign today. Any amount you can give will go a long way towards helping me secure the Republican nomination. Make no mistake, if I am the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate I will defeat Paul Hodes in November.

It is for the voters of New Hampshire - not Washington elites - to select the candidate they trust to be their next U.S. Senator. Accordingly, it is the endorsement of Granite State voters which I seek, not John McCain's.

P.S. Last weekend Senator McCain made a special trip to New Hampshire to endorse Kelly Ayotte, joining other Washington-based Republicans who have done so. But it is not up to DC power brokers, elites or party bosses to choose the next U.S. Senator from New Hampshire - it is up to you! That's why I'm seeking your endorsement as the true conservative for U.S. Senate. Please follow this link to make your most generous contribution to my campaign today and help me secure the nomination
