(Keene, NH) Dr. Carl S. DeMatteo, M.D. FACP, Chief Quality and Compliance Officer of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center will be recognized with a Founder’s Award at the 20th anniversary celebration of AIDS Services for the Monadnock Region (ASMR) on Saturday, May 1, 2010. DeMatteo was a founding member of the coalition that created ASMR, which was incorporated as a nonprofit AIDS service organization in 1989. For over two decades, from 1985-2008, he personified excellence in providing compassionate care while treating people living with HIV/AIDS who resided in the Monadnock Region.
Beginning in the mid-80s, the early days of the AIDS pandemic, DeMatteo was the infectious disease physician for Cheshire Medical Center, now Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene, located in Keene, NH. His community and medical leadership was key in the founding of ASMR as a community coalition responding to the AIDS pandemic in the Monadnock Region. DeMatteo was much-loved and respected by his patients in Keene for almost two decades before moving into his full-time role as Chief Quality and Compliance Officer for Dartmouth-Hitchcock, Lebanon, NH in 2008, providing oversight for all clinical quality and safety activities, the compliance and internal audit department, graduate and continuing medical education, and clinical research administration.
Dr. DeMatteo’s previous experience includes active staff physician, Rutland Regional Medical Center, Rutland, VT (1984-1985); and Chief, Division of Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology, Saint Vincent Health Center, Erie, PA (1981-1984). Dr. DeMatteo, an assistant Professor in Medicine, diplomat in internal medicine and infectious diseases, serves as a consultant in Infectious Disease on the active staff of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. He has served as a Trustee of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Alliance and the Clinic. He earned his M.D. from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his internship and his residency at the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont (now Fletcher Allen Health Care) in Burlington, Vermont. In addition, he also completed a fellowship in infectious disease at the Albany Medical College in Albany, New York.
