NHDP Chair Ray Buckley's Statement on the Passage of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" Repeal in the U.S. House of Representatives

Concord - New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley issued the following statement regarding last night's vote by the U.S. House of Representatives to repeal the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" military policy:

"I applaud Congresswoman Shea-Porter and Congressman Hodes for joining an overwhelming majority of Americans and Granite Staters who support an end to this discriminatory policy. The historic action taken yesterday evening will not only ensure that we keep our armed services strong, but also respect our gay and lesbian servicemen and women.

"In addition to receiving widespread approval from high-ranking military officials, recent polls show that over 70% of the American people back repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."  Last night's vote is an important step forward in promoting equality and inclusion for all.

"It is my hope that Senator Judd Gregg and Senate Republicans will join Democrats in supporting this effort."
