WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter voted for legislation that will help create jobs while making millions of American homes more energy efficient. The Home Star Energy Retrofit Act will provide economic incentives to consumers who install energy saving products in their homes. The bill has received bipartisan support and has been endorsed by numerous business, labor, environmental, and consumer groups, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Manufacturers, and the National Association of Home Builders.
“America’s dependency on foreign and domestic oil adversely affects our economy, environment, and national security,” said Congresswoman Shea-Porter. “This is a great bill that will help make our nation more energy independent and will create jobs.”
The Home Star Energy Retrofit Act will save 3 million American families an estimated $200 to $500 per year on their energy bills and will create thousands of American jobs in construction, manufacturing and retail industries. The bill will do this by:
· providing rebates for specific energy saving investments, including insulation, duct sealing, windows and doors, air sealing and water heaters; and by
· rewarding homeowners who conduct a comprehensive energy audit and implement measures to reduce energy use, backed by a quality assurance program.
