Concord, NH- Peterborough Republican Charlie Bass today issued the following statement regarding U.S. Representative Joe Barton’s (R-TX) comments to BP chief executive Tony Hayward during a hearing of the House Energy and Commerce Committee's subcommittee on oversight and investigations.
Bass stated, “Joe Barton’s comments were totally inappropriate, and he was right to retract them and apologize. This oil spill could be worst environmental calamity in U.S. history. BP must be held totally accountable for stopping the leak, cleaning up the spill, restoring the environment, and fairly compensating Gulf Coast people and businesses for damages incurred. The entire oil industry should pay close attention. Cutting corners and putting cost over safety is completely unacceptable – and you will be held accountable for your actions.”
