Shea-Porter Votes to Extend Unemployment Benefits

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter voted to extend unemployment insurance to Americans who cannot find work.  This bill, which passed the House 269 to 153, will extend the Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) and Extended Benefits programs through November 30, 2010.

“Our nation’s economic crisis has left many Americans unable to find work, despite their best efforts,” said Congresswoman Shea-Porter. “Unemployment insurance provides a lifeline to people who are struggling to find work, and I will continue to support legislation that helps people get back on their feet during these tough economic times.”

In addition to extending unemployment insurance, this bill will also retroactively restore benefits to some people whose benefits were allowed to expire.
