4th Annual Americana Festival Lands In Prescott Park on July 31st!
PORTSMOUTH, NH - Prescott Park Arts Festival will present the 4th Annual Americana Festival on Saturday, July 31st from 1-5pm. Presented on the FairPoint Communications MainStage, the all star lineup for Saturday's show features John Gorka, Ellis Paul, The Makem & Spain Brothers, and Roy Davis & The Dregs, and this year's show promises to please the ears of all those attending.
John Gorka, an honored icon of the folk tradition, brings to the stage his trademark energetic acoustic music, an expression of everyday life. John's rich baritone voice and unique songcraft weave a magical spell that can only be described as "Gorka".
Ellis Paul is one of the leading voices in American songwriting. A principle leader in the wave of singer/songwriters to emerge from the Boston folk scene, Paul played a key role in creating a movement that revitalized the national acoustic circuit with an urban, literate, folk pop sound that helped renew interest in the genre in the 1990s. Ellis successfully bridged the gap between modern folk and the populist tradition of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger more successfully than perhaps any of his songwriting peers.
The Makem & Spain Brothers come to the stage with remarkable vocal power and presence, offering a unique performance, while capturing the essence of their Irish folk music genre. A combination of five male vocals, various instruments and lush, three part harmonies blend together to create what some have called a wall of sound. And if their own considerable talent wasn't enough, The Makem Brothers are also carrying on a lineage of one of Irish music's dynasties, begun by their grandmother, Sarah Makem, and her vast store of traditional Irish songs. Their father, Tommy Makem, helped to bring Irish music into the international spotlight, and is now considered an icon.
Through his twenties, Roy Davis shared the stage with internationally acclaimed acts like Josh Ritter and Say Zuzu. Currently bringing an alt-country blend of music with a soul twist to the stage, Roy David & The Dregs offer up enough memorable lyrics, vintage guitar sounds and well-placed harmonies to make any indie rock elitist's mouth water. The debut album has received nods of approval from the music community and sales from across the globe.
Since 1974, Prescott Park Arts Festival has successfully reached over 3.5 million people through more than 10,000 music, theater, dance and art productions offered at no fixed admission on the banks of the Piscataqua River. The 36th season will feature the presentation of Peter Pan as the festival's signature musical production, as well as a variety of international artists as part of the River House Restaurant Concert Series and various music festivals.
