15th Annual Tommy Gallant Jazz Festival @ Prescott Park

For Immediate Release

15th Annual Tommy Gallant Jazz Festival on Sunday, July 11th in Prescott Park

PORTSMOUTH, NH - Prescott Park Arts Festival, in conjunction with The Seacoast Jazz Society Festival Fund, will present the 15th Annual Tommy Gallant Jazz Festival on Sunday, July 11th from noon until 5:30pm.  This year's festival will feature smooth sounds of the Jon Wheatley Quartet, the Press Room Trio, the Mark Shilansky Trio, and Seacoast Big Band.

On this 15th anniversary of the festival, the history of the event is especially poignant.  After the cancellation of the Portsmouth Jazz Festival in 1996, a dedicated group of jazz enthusiasts, including Tommy Gallant, Dave Seiler and Paul Verrette, worked to create and establish a fresh undertaking, complete with the cooperation of several agencies, including Prescott Park Arts Festival.  The new festival opened at the Seacoast Jazz Festival, but in 1999, with the untimely passing of Tom Gallant, it was voted to have his name permanently added to the event, in appreciation of Tom's contribution to the art of jazz in general, and this festival in particular.

The Tommy Gallant Jazz Festival features high-quality artists of national and regional stature and stylistic variety, offered in a family-oriented environment and with no fixed admission price.  The event is supported by the work of committed and passionate jazz lovers, and relies on small and large donations alike from the community at large.   The festival is presented with the cooperation of The New Hampshire Library of Traditional Jazz at UNH, The Harry Jones Concert at UNH, and The Seacoast Jazz Society.

Since 1974, Prescott Park Arts Festival has successfully reached over 3.5 million people through more than 10,000 music, theater, dance and art productions offered at no fixed admission on the banks of the Piscataqua River.  The 36th season will feature the presentation of Peter Pan as the festival's signature musical production, as well as a variety of international artists as part of the River House Restaurant Concert Series and various music festivals.

Located on 3.5 acres in beautiful downtown Portsmouth, Prescott Park Arts Festival is considered to be a gem of the Seacoast and introduces many residents to their first experience with a live performance.  For the entire season schedule, to become a Member or to become a Sponsor, please visit our website at www.prescottpark.org or call 603-436-2848.
