Guinta For Congress - The Department of Redundancy Department

“Frank’s Fifty” calls to end Congressional committee that duplicates work

Manchester, NH – Republican Congressional candidate Frank Guinta called for the termination of a Congressional subcommittee that duplicates work done on other committees. The Select Committee for Energy Independence and Global Warming receives more than two million dollars a year in operating funds. This committee has no legislative authority, and duplicates the work of other authorizing and oversight committees, namely the Energy & Commerce Committee.

“This committee comes straight out of the Department of Redundancy Department, and is a prime example of wasteful government spending,” said Guinta. “We’re spending two million dollars a year on a Congressional committee to do work that’s already being done. Let’s terminate this committee, and use the money that goes to it to help pay down the deficit.”

“Frank’s Fifty” has led the way in calling for an end to wasteful government spending, and abuse of taxpayer dollars. Since Guinta began the program more than two weeks ago, his fellow Republican candidates have now begun targeting specific ways to save taxpayer money. Guinta will continue to highlight waste, fraud and abuse in various government programs, as well as Carol Shea-Porter’s failed Stimulus package.

“I’m proud to have been the leader in this race in pointing out where the federal government is wasting our money,” Guinta continued. “I’m happy that my Republican colleagues have now joined in the fight on the behalf of taxpayers.”

Frank Guinta has proposed more than $306 billion in specific spending cuts for next year’s budget in the first eighteen days of the “Frank’s Fifty” program. Guinta will announce a specific spending cut every day until the Republican primary on September 14th. There are 33 days until this year’s primary.
