The Iowa State Fair is an automatic stop for presidential candidates in cycle, and a good place to indicate that you're interested. This year's visitors: Tim Pawlenty, Rick Santorum, and Newt Gingrich.
Of the people who are clearly running for President, it seems noticeable that Mitt Romney -- who spends a great deal of time at his house in New Hampshire -- hasn't stopped by to eat fried things on sticks, and I asked his spokesman about it.
"He was spending August with his family on vacation," Eric Fehrnstrom replies, indicating that Romney meant no slight to the Hawkeye State. "He was in Iowa in March on his book tour, and he will return to Iowa in the fall to campaign with Terry Branstad."
