NH DHHS Receives Federal Award For High Performance in Determining Food Stamp Eligibility

Concord, NH – The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Division of Family Assistance (DFA) will be recognized with a high performance award during a presentation in Concord on Thursday morning, August 19. Under Secretary Kevin Concannon from the US Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) will present DHHS Commissioner Nicholas Toumpas and DFA Director Terry Smith with the award that recognizes the quality with which DFA staff process client applications.

Specifically, in Federal Fiscal Year 2009, DFA was third best in the country for having a “negative participation rate," which is a measure for how well the Stated does at closing and denying food stamp cases for correct reasons. Along with the award, DFA has been provided a federal high performance cash bonus of $241,959. DHHS’ Division of Family Assistance (DFA) administers the federally funded Food Stamp Program. The Program provides support to needy households and those trying to transition to self-sufficiency. Just last month, the FS program served 109,131 New Hampshire residents.
