WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter released the following statement regarding the availability of Retroactive Stop Loss Special Pay for soldiers whose service was involuntarily extended between September 11th 2001 and September 30th 2009. These soldiers have until Oct. 21st to apply for retroactive pay, and are eligible to receive $500 a month for each month their service was extended.
"Countless soldiers' tours have been involuntarily extended, and they and their families should be compensated," said Congresswoman Shea-Porter. "I encourage all eligible service members, veterans, and beneficiaries to submit their claims so they can receive the pay they are rightly entitled to."
The deadline for claims is October 21, 2010. For more information or to submit a claim please visit www.defense.gov/stoploss .
