Prosperity Alert: January 2011

Take Action

Tell your legislators to vote to repeal and replace Obamacare!
Two of the most important votes facing the new Congress are on H.R. 2 and H.R. 9. These two bills will repeal Obamacare, and instruct Congressional committees to begin work on a new bill to reform health care. Click here to take action and encourage your legislators to support H.R. 2 and H.R. 9.

November Speaks
In November, the American people spoke. They said NO to big government spending projects and tax increases. Now, the new Congress is in session, and we must hold them accountable for their actions. We must ensure that they carry out the will of the people, as expressed in November.

A Look Back at AFP in 2010

Thanks to our activists, AFP had a banner year in 2010! AFP now has over 1.6 million grassroots activists from all 50 states. AFP has also expanded its infrastructure to include 31 state chapters and affiliates.

Not only did AFP see tremendous growth, but we won some key policy battles. We stopped Cap-and-Trade legislation in its tracks; we turned the nation's attention to rising deficit spending; and we showed the public that the FCC's "net neutrality" regulations were really just drastic overreaching by a bloated federal bureaucracy. Thanks again for a great year, and we look forward to an even better 2011!

Co-Activist of the Month - Kelly Sloan

Four years ago, Kelly Sloan immigrated to the United States from Canada, hoping to find a better life and more opportunity for himself and his family.  Kelly had become disaffected by the central planning policies of the Canadian government and their effects on society, especially the disastrous Canadian single-payer health care program.  After moving to his new home in Grand Junction, CO, Kelly was appalled to see America being driven towards Canadian-style big government.  That convinced him to become involved in the conservative movement to promote the American values that attracted him to the country in the first place.

Kelly has become a driving force in the Mesa County, Colorado, conservative movement, serving as the county’s director for AFP.  He has organized bus tours and rallies, including one protesting Obamacare when the President was visiting Grand Junction in 2009. This fall, Kelly also spearheaded a local AFP initiative to educate Mesa County residents on economic issues important to the area. Most recently, he organized a large viewing party for AFP's Hot Air Tour event in Cancun, Mexico.

Kelly is a leading local advocate for free market principles.  He writes a biweekly column for Grand Junction Free Press and has appeared as a political analyst on local Mesa County news broadcasts. He is also involved with the Leadership Program of the Rockies, which attracts conservative free market thinkers from around the nation to speak to citizens of Colorado.

Thanks Kelly for all that you do!

Co-Activist of the Month - Debbie Healy

As a registered nurse, Debbie Healy was appalled at the sweeping and damaging changes to the health care system that were being proposed when the debate began two years ago.  After participating in an AFP rally, she decided to become fully involved in the movement.  Now she is a conservative grassroots leader in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Debbie has been a valuable ally for AFP in the region, helping to organize November is Coming and Regulation Reality tour stops and leading door-to-door citizen education drives.  She also organized a telecast in Colorado for AFP’s trip to protest the harmful regulations being discussed at the UN Convention on Climate Change in Cancun, Mexico in December.

Working as the sales director for Liberty Inc. Journal, a conservative grassroots magazine, Debbie is extremely enthusiastic about educating her fellow citizens about the importance of free market principles.  “We are all energized to stop the malarkey”, she says.

Debbie, we appreciate all that you’ve done and continue to do. You are an AFP activist of the month!
