Concord - Today, in recognition of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley issued the following statement.
"Let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire," declared Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. forty-eight years ago on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
"Thanks to Governor Jeanne Shaheen, twelve years ago, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was observed for the first time in New Hampshire history. It is a poignant reminder of our American desire for equality and understanding of all people regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, or orientation.
"Through non-violent action, peaceful assembly, and soaring rhetoric, Dr. King helped show all Americans a better way forward and reminded our nation that all are created equal. His example will live on for generations and inspire millions to continue the work of forming a more perfect union. I urge all New Hampshire citizens to take a moment today and think about how each of us can help make our community a better more tolerant place."
