- Have a Local Valentine's with food from the Winter Farmers’ Markets

Make this Valentine's Day a day that tells them just how special they are to you and support our local farmers, fishermen, and food producers at the same time: do all your shopping at the Winter Farmers' Market for the most delicious locally grown ingredients!

On Saturday, February 12, 2011, 40 farmers, fishermen, and food producers will be in the cafeteria of the Exeter High School in Exeter, NH, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., selling their meats, cheeses, milk, eggs, vegetables, fish and shrimp, prepared foods, baked goods, honey, and maple syrup! You can find a full list of participating vendors and the products they will be selling at The Exeter High School is located at 315 Epping Road in Exeter.

You’ll be inspired to make a heart-warming meal from the foods farmers have grown. From grass-fed steaks and native shrimp and lobster to delicious sweets, the market provides one stop shopping for both special meals and everyday items. There will be a great assortment of vegetables, including salad greens, bok choi, kale, radishes, cabbage, lettuce, winter squash, carrots, potatoes, turnips, shallots, onions, and garlic. In addition to beef, pork, chicken, lamb, goat, and turkey will all be available from local growers. Farmers will have eggs, milk, and cheeses as well as honey, maple syrup, baked goods, and prepared foods made from locally grown ingredients.

The NH Food Bank will be at the farmers’ market on February 12th collecting donations. You are encouraged to purchase fresh foods to donate; the NH Food Bank is seeing a sharp increase in demand for their services and those in need are also eager to eat wholesome foods. Potatoes, carrots, onions, salad greens – any product available for sale at the market would make a welcome donation. Financial donations are welcome and will be used to increase purchases of local food for the food bank. Farmers generously donate foods at each market and the combined efforts of shoppers and farmers makes a significant positive impact in our community.

Veggie Valet

The foods of winter can be heavy! Slow Food Seacoast volunteers will be on hand to help shoppers stow their purchases while they continue to shop and then help get them to their cars with the wonderful Veggie Valet service!
