SOS Bill Gardner picks January 10, 2012

Concord, NH – Today, Secretary of State Bill Gardner set the date of the Presidential Primary for January 10, 2012.  New Hampshire Republican Party Chair Wayne MacDonald released the following statement:

“Thank you to Bill Gardner who worked through the various complications of the setting of the date this cycle and has again preserved our role and status as First-in-the-Nation Primary State.  While earlier than originally set by the national committee, this date is the best choice we were left with after Florida’s unauthorized move up.  During this process we were able to work with Republican leaders of the other early states and get on the same page and I am thankful to my counterparts and their teams in Nevada, South Carolina and Iowa for working so well with us.

“With the date now set, I suspect that we are going to see an increase in excitement and activity on the New Hampshire political scene.  The next two months will demonstrate why New Hampshire is so fortunate to have the opportunity we have as first primary, but also why we provide the best opportunity for candidates to meet voters, truly explain their positions beyond the sound bites and get known whether they have significant funding or not.”
