Why Did They Support Medicare Cuts That Are Forcing 7,600 Granite Staters To Change Plans?
Concord, NH – As former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s promise becomes a reality, Democrats like Jeanne Shaheen, Ann Kuster and Carol Shea-Porter owe New Hampshire voters an explanation about their Medicare cuts. As part of her efforts to muscle ObamaCare through Congress, Pelosi said, "We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it." (Watch Video) Today, the New Hampshire Union Leader's editorial page writes about how Granite Staters continue to learn about the so-called benefits:
“Remember when President Obama said that if his health care ‘reform’ law passed, you’d still get to keep your doctor? Medicare Advantage participants in the Granite State are finding out what a lie that was… New Hampshire has a high percentage of Medicare Advantage enrollees. Last month, 7,600 of them received notices that their coverage was being cancelled. Obamacare and another federal law passed in 2008, the Medicare Improvement for Patients and Providers Act, are killing Medicare Advantage…
“As a result, thousands of Granite State seniors are being forced to switch doctors because they have to switch coverage. This is just a taste of what is to come if Obamacare takes effect in full force.” (Editorial,New Hampshire Union Leader, 12/1/2011)
“It’s outrageous that then-Speaker Pelosi wanted to pass a bill before allowing the American people to know what is in it,” New Hampshire Republican State Committee Chairman Wayne MacDonald said. “With more than 7,000 New Hampshire residents now learning about these Medicare cuts and that they are forced to change doctors, Democrats who support ObamaCare need to come clean and admit that their plan enacted these changes.”
DEMS CUT $500 BILLION FROM MEDICARE TO PAY FOR OBAMACARE: "It would cut an additional $60 billion from Medicare, bringing total cuts to the program to more than $500 billion over the next 10 years." (Shailagh Murray and Lori Montgomery, "With Senate ‘Fixes' Bill, GOP Sees Last Chance to Change Health-Care Reform," The Washington Post, 3/24/2010)
But don’t take our word for it. Just a couple weeks ago, U.S. Senator John Kerry said this on Meet the Press (Watch Video):
“We just cut $917 billion without one dime of new revenue. He knows it. We just did it. We cut $550 billion in the health care act from Medicare.” (NBC’s “Meet the Press,” 11/20/2011)
When will Democrats such as Jeanne Shaheen, Ann Kuster, Carol Shea-Porter and others running in support of ObamaCare offer an explanation to New Hampshire voters who are now facing these cuts? On its current path, according to Medicare Trustees appointed by President Barack Obama, this critical program will be bankrupt by 2024. Republicans, such as Charlie Bass and Frank Guinta, have offered a plan to protect and preserve Medicare, while Democrats support the status quo, which Trustees say will force a 17 percent benefits cut.
