Cedar & Oak specializes in handcrafted all American-made furniture and will hold a ribbon cutting on Dec 8th
Manchester, NH – Cedar & Oak, a furniture manufacturer that specializes in creating handmade solid fine wood furniture using only American made components, will be celebrating the opening of their first retail location on Thursday, December 8th at 10:15am with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The retail store is located at 379 Elm Street, next to the Music Mill and Van Otis Chocolate.
Cedar & Oak started in 2002 in the garage of owner Michael Rousseau where he began to sell his hand-crafted furniture to furniture stores throughout New Hampshire. In 2008, Rousseau decided to expand operations and opened a manufacturing facility at 21 West Auburn St in downtown Manchester. His expansion was made possible with a $22,000 loan made through the City of Manchester’s Revolving Loan Fund (RLF), which is administrated by the Manchester Economic Development Office (MEDO). “The initial RLF loan allowed me to purchase all new equipment, which in turn allowed me to streamline the manufacturing process and provide the highest quality products to my customers” stated Rousseau. The loan also allowed Rousseau to expand the number of furniture stores selling his products. Currently, Cedar & Oak furniture to available in more than 50 locations throughout New England and upstate New York. In 2010, Rousseau began to explore the possibility of opening a retail store and combining it with a new manufacturing facility. “I never envisioned opening a retail store when I started the business in 2002, but the timing just seemed right, despite the economy” stated Rousseau. To assist with the opening of the new retail store and to hire additional workers Cedar & Oak received a $41,000 RLF loan. In the past year Cedar & Oak has hired two employees bringing their workforce to six and Rousseau intends to hire additional workers once sales at the new retail location begin to pick up.
Cedar & Oak is well known for its “green manufacturing” practices and commitment to using only American-made products in the construction of their furniture. “We take a lot of pride that all our furniture is 100% made in the USA and more than 90% of the products used to make our furniture come from right here in New Hampshire. We are also an environmentally friendly company using only VOC compliant finishes” stated Rousseau. Owner Michael Rousseau believes so strongly in supporting locally made products that he is offering New Hampshire made products in his store. “We are offering our customers the ability to buy furniture made by New Hampshire craftsmen and purchase other New Hampshire made products such as Peterborough baskets and locally made jellies, jams, pottery and candles. As a small business owner using only American made components, I make every effort to support other New Hampshire small businesses”.
The public is encouraged to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, December 8th at 10:15am. The store is currently open for business. For store hours and additional information about Cedar & Oak please visit their website at http://cedarandoak.com/.
