AULA Calls on Congress to Freeze 1/3 Billion Dollars Going to Planned Parenthood

Americans agree – whether pro-life or pro-choice – that they don’t want their tax dollars paying for abortion,” said AULA attorney Kellie Fiedorek

WASHINGTON, D.C. (02-10-11) – Americans United for Life Action staff counsel Kellie Fiedorek called on the U.S. Congress to immediately freeze the millions of tax dollars going to Planned Parenthood and to open investigations “into the secret world behind the closed doors of the nation’s largest chain of abortionists.”

Fiedorek made her comments during a news conference in the House Cannon Office building along with the Congressional Pro-life Women’s caucus and other organizations in the Expose Planned Parenthood Coalition. The groups gathered on Capitol Hill in part to discuss on-going revelations from Lila Rose, president of Live Action, who has released a series of undercover videos made across the country in Planned Parenthood clinics. The videos show a man and woman posing as a pimp and prostitute talking with various Planned Parenthood employees about sex trafficking; and the videos detail the clinic employees giving the couple advice about how to avoid legal troubles when bringing to the clinic underage girls and illegal aliens.

Fiedorek made the following statement:

“Freezing the funds going to the abortion industry – which receives one-third of a billion tax dollars each year – should be the most bi-partisan issue in Washington, D.C. We know that more than 70 percent of Americans – pro-life and pro-choice – do not want to pay for abortions with tax dollars. And now, through the Live Action videos, we see troubling evidence of a disregard for the law and the safety of underage girls in abortion clinics.

“Americans United for Life Action calls on Congress to freeze the monies going to Planned Parenthood and to open an investigation in the secret world behind the closed doors of the nation’s largest abortion chain. The burden of proof is on Cecile Richards, President of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, to show that every Planned Parenthood affiliate complies with medically—and legally—appropriate standards of care. And the time is right for Congress to get the American taxpayer out of the business of paying for abortion.”

AUL's legal team has been involved in every abortion-related case before the U.S. Supreme Court, including the successful defense of the Hyde Amendment. AUL also publishes Defending Life, the most comprehensive state-by-state legal guide of its kind, which is distributed annually to legislators across the nation.
