AUL - What will we find inside the abortion industry?

AUL CALLS ON CONGRESS TO FREEZE PLANNED PARENTHOOD'S FUNDING & TO INVESTIGATE ITS CLINICS FOR POSSIBLE CRIMINAL MISCONDUCT

The abortion industry has been embroiled in a public relations nightmare over the last few weeks as a Philadelphia abortionist was indicted for allegedly causing the death of a woman in a squalid facility. And then came Lila Rose. The president of Live Action released undercover videos of graphic conversations between Planned Parenthood personnel and a couple posing as a pimp and prostitute that showed just how cavalier the abortion industry can be about sex trafficking and possible crimes against underage girls.

Dr. Charmaine Yoest, President and CEO of Americans United for Life Action (AULA) called on Congress to freeze the millions of dollars going to Planned Parenthood and to open an investigation into allegations of illegal activities by clinics affiliated with the nation’s largest abortion provider.

"It is time to hold Planned Parenthood accountable for their seedy business practices,” said Dr. Yoest. “The burden of proof is on Cecile Richards, President of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, to show that every Planned Parenthood affiliate complies with medically—and legally—appropriate standards of care. And Congress needs to get the American taxpayer out of the abortion business.”

To the extreme frustration of radical abortion advocates, a webcast with Live Action was joined by AULA and other pro-life organizations to detail what we know, and what we hope to learn, about what is going on in abortion clinics today. BREAKING NEWS FROM AUL IN VIRGINIA

As Live Action was releasing its undercover videos, a Richmond, Virginia, Planned Parenthood clinic became part of the national story on Thursday. That same day, AUL staff attorney Anna Franzonello was at the Virginia state capitol to testify before the Virginia Senate Committee on Education and Health. At issue: AUL’s view that the Commonwealth of Virginia should “opt out” of President Obama’s Health Care Law through Virginia Senate Bill 1202 (SB 1202).  (Click here to read a newspaper account of the hearing.)

But while she was in Richmond, Franzonello led a mobile news conference discussing the implications of Planned Parenthood employees subverting the law and turning a blind eye to possible crimes against women.

AUL is a leader in model legislation that would allow states to better regulate the kind of care that women receive in an abortion clinic. (Click here to check out model legislation.) More than 300 news outlets picked up Franzonello’s defense of women. Click here to read an Associated Press story at the CBS News website.

ATTENTION PRO-LIFE LAW STUDENTS: GUIDEBOOK FOR CONSTITUTIONAL LAW
NOW AVAILABLE

The law school environment—indeed the legal community at large—is often hostile to laws that protect the dignity of human life.  In fact, it is often uninformed as to the evolution of the alleged “right to privacy” and the “right to abortion” in the United States.  Most law school curricula fail to address adequately the important cases involving abortion and the issues they present.  As future lawyers, judges, and legislators, law students have the responsibility and the privilege to protect the most basic human right—the right to life.

To aid in that goal, AUL attorneys developed the Constitutional Law and Abortion Primer to be used as a resource by pro-life law students in its Advocates for Life chapters.  The Primer provides pro-life law students with a solid foundation to better understand and explore these topics throughout law school and as attorneys.  AUL expects this Primer to stimulate a richer classroom discussion and dialogue with fellow students and professors.

GOOD NEWS:
ELECTIONS DO HAVE CONSEQUENCES

Many news stories and commentaries noted that the pro-life movement made great gains in state legislatures and gubernatorial offices in the last election. And it shows. AUL is the leader in model legislation, providing state office holders tremendous legal support for their pro-life efforts.
Already in 2011, AUL and AULA have consulted in 36 states – and counting. Thanks for making that possible.
