WASHINGTON – Congressman Charles F. Bass (NH-02) issued the following statement today after the House of Representatives passed the Fiscal Year 2012 budget resolution, which sets a fiscal blueprint for our nation’s spending priorities.
“The budget that passed the House today is a bold step in seeking solutions to getting our nation’s fiscal house in order and fostering job creation and economic growth. In the last two years, non-defense discretionary spending increased by over 80 percent, but American families haven’t seen an 80 percent increase in their budgets. Everyone is tightening their belts, and so should Washington.
“The budget resolution also takes responsible measures to preserve and protect Medicare and Medicaid for future generations by driving down costs through competition. We need to make responsible choices today to save our children and grandchildren from tougher choices tomorrow.
“Changing course and returning our nation to fiscal solvency is not a Republican or Democratic issue. There is too much at stake for us to get caught up in the politics surrounding these issues. Today’s debate on our nation’s fiscal future won’t be the last, and it’s a debate we need to continue having to ensure we are on the right path to growing our economy and creating jobs.”
