Heritage Releases a plan to cut spending, balance the budget, reform entitlements, and recast the tax code - just as we reach the debt limit!
The United States hit an all-time high debt, passing $14 trillion yesterday, according to Associated Press. And with $45,300 of debt for every man, woman and child in the United States, it’s time to get serious about cutting spending and addressing our growing deficits and mounting debt. Simply raising the debt limit and allowing the United States to borrow more money, unchecked, will not make that happen.
The Heritage Foundations’s Special Report, Saving the American Dream—our plan to fix the debt, cut spending, restore prosperity, balance the nation’s budget within a decade, and keep it balanced – is just what’s needed.
As Heritage President Ed Feulner noted in his foreword to this new report, America is on the verge of becoming a country in decline—economically stagnant and permanently debt-bound, heavily regulated and bureaucratic, less self-governing and less free.
But this fate does not have to be our future. We can get spending under control, balance the budget, and shrink our debt. We can limit the size of government and set free once again the unlimited genius of Americans to create wealth and jobs. We can turn the tide and change our nation’s course.
Syndicated columnist Cal Thomas said: “Knowing what must be done and not doing it is not just irresponsible, but deplorable. The Heritage plan offers a way out if politicians put the welfare of their country ahead of their own.”
I’ve included a link to a brief video with clips describing our reforms and a press release below.
We’re busy briefing Members of Congress and key allies on the plan and encourage you to download the report, listen to a podcast by one of our key analysts describing the plan, and let us know what you think.
