(Concord, N.H.) New Hampshire Department of Corrections Commissioner William L. Wrenn announced that Helen Hanks was appointed Director for Medical and Forensics Services. The New Hampshire Executive Council gave unanimous approval to her nomination on May 25, 2011.
Director Hanks had been Assistant Director since December 2005. Prior to that she was a Social Worker assigned to the New Hampshire State Prison in Concord since October 2003. Director Hanks received a Masters of Science in Management of Health Care from Brandeis University.
She will oversee a division which manages all health care provided to the 2,486 inmates incarcerated in the state prison system. She will work in partnership with MHM Services, the contracted provider for mental health services within the Department of Corrections. Director Hanks is also responsible for managing the Secure Psychiatric Unit and Residential Treatment Unit located on the grounds of the New Hampshire State Prison in Concord.
Commissioner William L. Wrenn said, “Director Hanks has a wide range of experience and knowledge in all facets of medical and mental health services. She has assisted in the development and implementation of policies and procedures of evidence-based treatment practices and is a valuable asset to the management team.”
