NHDP - Will Gatsas Denounce Key Santorum Campaign Platform: Ending Medicare As We Know It?

Manchester, N.H. - Today Mayor Ted Gatsas will lean on Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum - whose key campaign platform is ending Medicare as we know it - to raise cash for his reelection campaign.

"As national Republicans have signed on to a reckless agenda to end Medicare as we know, the big question is does Mayor Gatsas agree that the GOP budget is right for New Hampshire?" asked state Representative Mike Brunelle. "Santorum's fundraising for the Mayor's campaign raises a lot of questions about where Gatsas is on Santorum's central campaign platform - ending Medicare as we know it."
Santorum was one of the first GOP presidential candidates to endorse the reckless GOP budget, "I support what he [Ryan] wants to do with Medicare, Medicaid. The only thing I would do, frankly, as I've said publicly many times, I think we should implement a lot of these things sooner than what he's suggesting."
Rep Frank Guinta, Mayor Gatsas' predecessor, voted for the GOP budget to end Medicare multiple times.

A Boston Globe poll released last week found that in New Hampshire "even among likely Republican primary voters...fewer than 30 percent supported cutting Medicare and Social Security."
Another key finding of the poll: "Despite the state's anti-tax reputation, most poll respondents said they would prefer to reduce the deficit by raising taxes on the wealthy, rather than eliminating federal agencies or cutting spending on Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security."

"It's clear where the voters are on this issue and for Mayor Gatsas to raise money from one of the most vocal advocates of ending Medicare as we know it shows us exactly where he is on this issue as well," continued Brunelle.
