Le Vent du Nord to perform Prescott Park

Concert Series continues with Canadian JUNO Award winning band

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. - As part of the Prescott Park Arts Festival 37th season, one of the top traditional acts from Canada, Le Vent du Nord, will perform in Prescott Park as part of the River House Concert Series on Wednesday, June 29, at 7pm. Earlier this year, Le Vent du Nord received a prestigious JUNO Award, Canada's version of the Grammy.

"This is one of those groups that will enthrall you," said Prescott Park Arts Festival executive director Ben Anderson, "They have a unique sound and are full of wonderful energy."

Le Vent du Nord is known for getting their crowds dancing to the sound of fiddle and hurdy-gurdy, using an original repertoire that is both fresh and bound to tradition. One of the group's strength is a stage presence that is energetic, dynamic, generous and in touch with the audience. On stage, these four friends achieve peaks of happiness they eagerly share with any and all audiences.

Le Vent du Nord consists of four singers and multi-instrumentalists, Nicolas Boulerice, Simon Beaudry, Olivier Demers, and Réjean Brunet. Their mix of original songs and those from the traditional folk repertoire are sung in their native French, to the delight of their audience for whom it is usually a foreign language.

"These guys know how to deliver music that will move any crowd to their feet and in their hearts," continued Anderson. "Anyone interested in experiencing a memorable concert in a beautiful setting is definitely encouraged not to miss this."

Besides being awarded a JUNO Award, the band has received a Canadian Folk Music Award, and been selected as one of the Top 5 World Music CDs.

Held each Wednesday night in Prescott Park, the concert series has experienced record attendance this summer, featuring a wide array of International and Grammy Award winning artists. The concert series will feature acts like Shawn Colvin, Taj Mahal Trio, Arlo Guthrie, Greg Brown, and Jonathan Edwards this year.

The River House Restaurant Concert Series is part of the Prescott Park Arts Festival's 37th season that also features the musical The Wizard of Oz, running every Thursday through Sunday until August 21, 2011.

"Without a doubt, the River House Restaurant Concert Series has hit new levels this year in terms of the caliber of artists we're presenting," said Anderson, "It's more than exciting and the buzz around town has been exceptional."

All events offered at the Prescott Park Arts Festival are presented free of charge with a suggested donation of $5 - $8 dollars.
