AFP - You have to Balance your Budget, Why Doesn't Washington?

Tough economic times have families, businesses and local governments making hard choices to balance their budgets. Sometimes we all have to cut back on things we want in order to keep our finances in good shape. But not in Washington…

The country has once again reached its debt ceiling; we now owe more than $14.3 trillion. That's more than $46,000 for every man, woman and child in the United States. But President Obama came to Congress looking for a blank check increase of the debt ceiling. Obama's proposed budget actually calls for us to double our debt in the next ten years; no wonder the Senate voted it down 97-0.

Take action today and urge your senators and representative to join the coalition pledging not to raise the debt limit unless we Cut, Cap and Balance the federal budget.

Thankfully, there's a movement afoot to insist that Congress not raise the nation's debt limit without serious changes to the way our government spends our hard-earned tax dollars.

Americans for Prosperity has joined a coalition of more than 60 conservative organizations pledging not to support a higher debt limit unless we Cut, Cap, and Balance the federal budget.

  • Cut: We must see substantial cuts in spending that will reduce the deficit next year.
  • Cap: We need enforceable spending caps that will put federal spending on a path to a balanced budget.
  • Balance: Congress must send the states a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that includes both a spending limitation and a super-majority for raising taxes, in addition to balancing revenues and expenses.

Conservative organizations are banding together on this issue because it is vital to the nation's prosperity. But we cannot do it without your help.

Take action today and urge your senators and representative to join the coalition pledging not to raise the debt limit unless we Cut, Cap and Balance the federal budget.

Sincerely,

Tim Phillips
