Washington, DC – Today, DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Colorado Democratic Party Chair Rick Palacio held a press conference call to discuss the DNC’s new Spanish-language television ad that is running in Reno, Las Vegas, Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Denver, Albuquerque, and Washington, DC. The ad underscores the President’s commitment to the Hispanic community and sets the record straight.
On the call, Chair Wasserman Schultz said:
“Hispanics have always been and continue to be a priority for the President. That’s why it was important to reach them in Spanish and set the record straight. The ad…outlines what President Obama has done on behalf of working American families and shines a light on Republicans’ record. Republicans have tried to obfuscate their record to end Medicare as we know it, give tax breaks to the very rich, and support a budget plan that rolls back the progress we’ve made and places additional burdens on seniors and the middle class….When it comes to the Hispanic community, President Obama has expanded access to healthcare, ended insurance companies’ abusive practices, expanded financial aid for our youth, and cut taxes for the middle class. The American people don’t want the failed policies of the Republican Party. What the country and the Hispanic community need is the continued leadership of President Obama, who is focused like a laser on creating jobs and moving our country forward.”
And, Colorado Democratic Party Chair Rick Palacio said:
“The President has been a fierce advocate on behalf of Latinos. The President expanded the State Children’s Health Insurance Program to an additional 4 million children, including, for the first time ever, legal immigrant children. It also meant removing language barriers to help mothers and children get the care they need. The President’s student loan reform provides an additional 150,000 Pell Grants to Hispanic students. Additionally, the Recovery Act kept 1.9 million Latinos out of poverty in 2009. And tax cuts for 4 million families, including 8 million children.
“Hispanic priorities are not Republican priorities. No matter what language they use, Republicans can’t hide their record of wanting to end Medicare to pay for tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires. The contrast could not be more sharp and that’s why we need to set the record straight. President Obama stands for working families, middle class families, and Hispanic families. Republicans stand for millionaires and billionaires and special interests and this ad shows that.”
