Freedom Action - Obama Commerce Nominee Bryson To Americans: Energy prices are going to have to go up.

Washington, D.C., August 9, 2011 – President Obama’s nominee to head the Commerce Secretary, John Bryson, has advocated energy policies that he has acknowledged will drive up prices.

“It’s going to cost something to deal effectively with this [global warming].  Energy prices are going to have to go up.  It’s not all nirvana on new technologies.”  - John Bryson, 2007 (See: video clips compiled by Freedom Action)

As Commerce Secretary, Bryson would be among the lead government officials promoting job and economic growth in the U.S.  Yet, Bryson has publicly praised California’s job-killing, economy-killing energy policies.  California has among the highest electricity rates in the country and among the highest unemployment rates.

“The nomination of Bryson to be the Commerce Secretary follows a tradition of choosing crony capitalists with power over legitimate businessmen,” said Brian McGraw of Freedom Action. “Similar to Obama ‘job czar’ Jeff Immelt, Bryson’s business experience relies on collecting subsidies and handouts from government, not from producing and innovating for consumers.” said Brian McGraw of Freedom Action. “Furthermore, Bryson is an environmental ideologue. Imagine how environmentalists would react to the CEO of ExxonMobil being elected to run the Environmental Protection Agency.”

Freedom Action and the American Conservative Union last month launched a joint grassroots campaign to defeat Bryson’s nomination to be Commerce Secretary. Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), in conjunction with that campaign, put a formal hold on the nomination.
