MEDC - New Hampshire Restaurants help spice up 2011 World's Championship Chili Cookoff

NH Restaurants will compete for the title of “Best Chili in New Hampshire” and “People’s Choice Champion”

Manchester, NH – Which New Hampshire restaurant serves the best chili? This important question will be answered at this year’s World’s Championship Chili Cookoff (WCCC) coming to Veterans Park in downtown Manchester from Friday, September 30th- Sunday, October 2nd. For the second year in a row the WCCC will feature a Restaurant Division which is open to all New Hampshire restaurants. Last year more than 30 restaurants competed in the Restaurant Division for a chance to win the title of “Best Chili in New Hampshire”. The Red Arrow Diner won the title last year and will be back again to defend their title. Restaurants will also compete for the People’s Choice Award which is selected by public voting. Last year’s People’s Choice Champion was Billy’s Sports Bar.

There is no registration fee for restaurants to participate in the Restaurant Division. Restaurants are only asked to provide samples of their restaurant’s chili for public sampling which will occur from 2:00-4:00pm each day of the WCCC. Registration forms are available online at or by calling Chris Wellington, City of Manchester, at 603-624-6505.

The WCCC is sanctioned by the International Chili Society and is the culmination of more than 200 chili cook-offs that are held throughout the country. A World Champion will be named in three categories during the 2011 WCCC: Red Chili, Chili Verde and Salsa. The Red Chili winner will take home a $25,000 grand prize and the coveted Bronze Pot Trophy. Last year’s Red Chili Champion was Tom Hoover from Ohio.
