NHYR - New Hampshire House Majority Leader D.J. Bettencourt Calling on all Republican Presidential Candidates to attend the 3rd Annual NH Young Republicans Lobster Bake

SALEM– Today House Majority Leader D.J. Bettencourt (R-Salem) called on all Presidential candidates to attend the 3rd Annual New Hampshire Young Republicans Lobster bake and show their commitment to young Republicans in New Hampshire and the nation.

“The New Hampshire Young Republican’s Lobster bake has rapidly become one of the most important political events in New Hampshire. It represents one of the largest gatherings of young premier talent and activists within the New Hampshire Republican Party.

The public face of the Republican Party cannot continue to get older. Such a perception is a poor recruiting poster for an 18-year-old first-time voter who could potentially be a future leader in the party. We must open up to younger people and recognize their potential. We must encourage them to run for office and hold important positions within our party. New, young faces must be a significant demographic of our party if we are to continue enjoying success in New Hampshire.

This is why I believe it is so important that those running for president make this event a priority and make every possible effort to attend. We need the youth demographic to be part of a successful effort to take back the presidency and make Barack Obama a one-term president.  This will depend largely on our ability to address their issues and a willingness to embrace their idealism. We must draw them into the political process and your attendance at the New Hampshire Young Republican’s Lobster bake is an important part of that effort.”
David Hurst Chairman of The New Hampshire Young Republican’s issued the following statement, “I welcome House Majority Leader DJ Bettencourt’s comments and appreciate that he sees the importance of showing the youth of our party that they matter to the political process.  I join him in urging all candidates seeking the Republican Nomination for President to come share your ideas with us.  While only one candidate will win our Straw Poll, every candidate who participates is a winner for their effort to get their message to younger voters and the only loser in this process is President Barack Obama.”
The Lobster Bake and Straw Poll will be held at The Great Island Common in New Castle on Saturday, August 20th at 10:30AM-4PM.
Tickets are $35 for Young Republicans and $50 for Republicans over 40. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit us on Facebook or at NHYR.com.
