NHDP - Statement by NHDP Chair Ray Buckley on the Passing of Bernard L. Boutin

Concord, NH - New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley released the following statement on the passing of Bernard L. Boutin.

"It is with great sadness the we learn of the passing of former Laconia Mayor and Democratic Nominee for Governor Bernie Boutin. Bernie was one of New Hamsphire's greatest Democrats and represented the very best in New Hampshire's commitment to public service and citizen involvement.

"On a personal note, I am supremely grateful for the time I had to spend with Bernie over the years.  He was a friend and role model.  All New Hampshire Democrats extend their deepest condolences to Bernie's family and loved ones."

Bernard Boutin was the Democratic Nominee for Governor of New Hampshire in 1958 and 1960, served as the state chair of President Kennedy's New Hampshire campaign, and was a Democratic National Committeeman.  As Director the General Services Administration in the Kennedy Administration, Boutin changed the building plans for the Executive Office Building at Lafayette Square to preserve a number of important historical sites including Ford's Theater, which previous plans were set to demolish.
