Statement of NHDP Chair Ray Buckley on House Vote on Dangerous Deadly Force Bill

Concord, NH -  New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley released the following statement on the New Hampshire House of Representatives' dangerous vote to override the Governor's veto of the deadly force bill, Senate Bill 88.  After telling the public that no votes to override any of the Governor's vetos would he held today, House Republican Speaker O'Brien broke his word and called multiple veto override votes during today's session without any public notice.

"In his effort to turn New Hampshire into the wild, wild west, Speaker O'Brien lied to the people of New Hampshire and hid his reckless agenda from voters.  While that might be the best strategy he has to pass a dangerous bill like SB88 that doesn't make it right.  Clearly the House's commitment to transparency, openness, and the democratic process mean nothing to this Speaker.

"Senate Bill 88 has been opposed by numerous law enforcement officials from around the state, including the New Hampshire Chiefs of Police, the New Hampshire Sheriffs Association, the New Hampshire Police Association and the New Hampshire Troopers Association.  Rather than follow the advice of these hard working men and women who everyday risk their lives to keep us and our loved ones safe, House Republicans put their reckless ideology before concern for the wellbeing of New Hampshire families."
