Ambassador & Mrs. Petrone Endorse Perry for President

Today, former Ambassador Joseph & Augusta Petrone endorsed Texas Governor Rick Perry for President.

As presidential campaign volunteers since 1972, we worked hard for Reagan in ‘76, and helped run his Iowa campaign in ’84. We now measure most candidates against President Reagan.  Governor Perry has many of his confidence-inspiring qualities, such as strength attached to his affability, and a savvy-ness attached to his genuineness. We wanted a principled conservative—with backbone.  We have found one.”

Ambassador and Mrs. Petrone served as Honorary Co-Chairs for Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s 2008 presidential bid and are very active in Republican politics, hosting candidates and conservative third party events at their home in Dublin.

Ambassador Petrone was the US Permanent Representative to the European Office of the UN and Other International Organizations in Geneva from 1987-1989. Retiring at the rank of Colonel in 1970, his military career spanned three wars (WWII, Korea and Vietnam).  He served as an aide to President Eisenhower from 1954-1956 and was Assistant Military Attaché at the American Embassy in Paris from 1967-1970.

He is the recipient of numerous awards and decorations (Departments of Army, Defense and State; Poland and France) as well as three battle stars from General Patton’s 3rd Army. He is a graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point and the British Staff College at Camberley, England. Ambassador Petrone and his wife, the former Augusta Henderson of Boston, divide their time between their farms in New Hampshire and Iowa.
