NHDP -Former Law Enforcement Officers Denounce State Rep. Tasker's Offensive Comment

Concord, NH - This morning, the Associated Press reported that Republican State Representative Kyle Tasker posted inappropriate comments on Facebook questioning when it is ok for citizens to "blow away" police officers. Former law enforcement officers Representative Steve Shurtleff and Representative Ray Gagnon released the following statements in response.

"Three days from now, we will commemorate those who died in the September 11th terrorist attacks, including 60 New York City Police Officers.  The police officers in New Hampshire are not just people with badges, they are men and women who everyday risk their lives to keep us safe," said former Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal and State Representative Steve Shurtleff of Concord.  "These comments are appalling.  Not only do they have no place in the New Hampshire House of Representatives, but need to be denounced by Republicans and Democrats alike."

"During my years as the appointed U.S Marshal for New Hampshire, I had the privilege to meet and work with law enforcement officers on the state, local, and county level.  To dismiss them as 'quick on the draw' is insulting and disgusting," said former U.S. Marshall and State Representative Ray Gagnon of Claremont.  "I have nothing but the highest respect and appreciation for these brave and caring individuals who daily risk their lives.  We should be working to protect public safety with our law enforcement officials - not against them."
