YRNF Statement on Obama rejection of Keystone XL Pipeline

Lisa Stickan, Chairman of the Young Republican National Federation, has issued the following statement on President Barack Obama's rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline:

President Obama has pandered to the worst instincts of his liberal supporters against American jobs and national security. Our country needs more energy to grow and return to a prosperous society. Canada, already our largest supplier of energy, wants to provide it. Labor unions want the jobs created by by building the pipeline. Furthermore, this will make it harder to use the shale resources in North Dakota that are driving so much economic growth and employment there.  Instead of American jobs and American energy security, President Obama has guaranteed that the Chinese will invest in energy resources in Canada. There is a reason that Barack Obama's former National Economic Council Chairman called opposition to the Keystone XL pipeline "naive". Construction of this pipeline is simply in the economic and national security interests of the United States. We hope that Congress continues this battle over the next year and that a Republican President reverses this terrible, "naive" decision after January 20, 2013.
